Inspiration

One of the people that I absolutely love their designs is Kimora Lee Simmons. I feel in love with her designs when I was pregnant with my 3rd child in 2005 because I was able to wear her clothing throughout the end of my pregnancy and not feel like I had to wear not so cute maternity clothing. I aspire to be like her and be in control of my destiny by taking this design world by storm.

I have purchased her book "Fabulosity" and have read it all the way through which I am about to do again so that I can retain what I have read and put it to use. When I first read the book I was just reading it because it was her book but after actually reading it all the way through the first time there are many great hints, tips and advice for not only those who aspire to be models but strong, efficient businesswomen. I need to build up my library with other women authors who are all focused toward the same thing.

Now she has this show that comes on every Sunday at 8pm called "Kimora Life in the Fab Lane" on the style network that I absolutely love watching because you get a sense of who she really is. Plus get to see what it's like to be a powerful business woman running a mega empire. I love it!!

Educating Myself

I have decided that I am going to educate myself on the all the possible aspects that are involved in printmaking. I am going to take a course in Adobe Illustrator since I am not really a good physical artist... let me put it to you this way, in the 5th grade my turkey came out looking like a cow with feathers. While it looked neat that wasn't the assignment I was suppose to be doing. So I think that it would be a really good idea to a course or two in Adobe Illustrator to further my design spectrum.

Hand & Hand

I guess it's true that once you get into the whole printing of anything you start to look at other things that you can make using the same techniques. Which brings me to printmaking in the form of cards, paper, etc. So I am teaching myself print making on paper, cardboard, etc. as well.

I am so amped up to learn something NEW. I have been desiging with others fabrics for soo long this is like a welcomed release.

It's Taking FOREVER!!!

This is taking so long for my course to begin. I will start hopefully next week but I am unsure due to other obstacles. I still need to purchase all of the extra supplies that aren't included in the course. I am a little scared but extra happy at the same time. I don't know what to do with myself. So I will be trying my hand at printing my own fabric using dyes instead of inks until I get all the appropriate supplies.

Where to start???

Okay I guess I will start at the middle because it's closer. LOL No really I have been wanting to screen print for a number of years but I wasn't able to due to always seeming like I was pregnant. SO now that I am done having children and I am ready to start on my newest venture in my life... taking my design skills to knew heights and getting my stuff in stores locally and globally. I have always wanted myself to stand out from the rest of the designers that are already out there and I feel that the only way to do that is to actually have my own custom printed fabrics.

I have also always wondered what it would be like to have my very own designer clothing line with fabric that I designed myself. Well my wondering will soon be over. I will be taking a course in custom fabric printing using the screen printing technique from this lovely lady in Canada. I can't wait to start and see all the stuff that I can achieve with this new horizon opening.

But I am also going to try my hand at dye (block) printing too. I came across this tutorial "Printing Your Very Own Fabric"and was happy to see that I have almost all of the supplies on hand because I already vat dye fabric. The only things that I need to purchase are the sodium alginate and urea.... which I am trying to see if I really need to use the urea at all because to my knowledge it's only used to keep the fabric wet for a longer period of time. So I have to do a little more investigation. I am soo excited...

So join me as I journey down the road to my dreams of being having custom printed fabric to use for my creations.
